Srilankan not using Ukrainian airspace

SriLankan Airlines yesterday said that its flights were not using Ukrainian airspace when travelling to Europe.

In response to A question whether the airline had diverted its path following Thursday's Malaysian flight crash, a spokesman for the Srilankan said, “As a policy our flights are not operating airspaces, where there are conflicts. In this case our flights are taking different path when travelling to Europe, and we don't use the Ukrainian airspace.”

Civil Aviation Authority gives advice to Sri Lankan airliners

The Civil Aviation Authority has advised Sri Lankan airliners to avoid the Eastern Ukraine airspace.

Director General of the Authority, H.M.C Nimalsiri said the decision was taken following the Malaysian Airlines airliner MH17 crash in the area on Thursday.  However, the the Director General said Sri Lankan Airlines took steps to avoid the airspace since June.

Two hundred and ninety five (295) passengers and crew died when MH17  crashed in the area on Thursday, en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.
