Popular singer fined For harbouring mosquito breeding sites

Based on a charge sheet filed by the Boralesgamuwa Public Health Inspector, the Nugegoda Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge, Ajith M. Masinghe, ordered popular singer, Deepika Priyadarshani Peiris, to pay a fine of Rs 1,500 for having mosquito breeding sites in her house.
She was fined for maintaining....a pool in a manner conducive to breed mosquitoes at her house in Boralesgamuwa.
Sources said an open warrant had been issued on Peiris earlier, for failing to appear in Court on two previous occasions with regard to the case that had been filed against her.

At the request of the singer’s Attorney-at-Law, the judge considered her role as a servant of a charity organization under government purview, in deciding the fine that had been imposed, which is the stipulated sum to be paid by a government employee.
