Private bus owners in Sri Lanka are to renew the call for a bus fare hike, which they have been making for some time.
The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) told a news conference that it is now time for another bus fare revision.
The LPBOA said it would discuss the matter with transport authorities after the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
According to the National Bus Fare Policy, the next fare revision is to take place in July.
LPBOA President Gemunu Wijerathna said that while a new committee was appointed to make recommendations on increasing bus fares, the work scope and mandate of the committee is yet to be determined.
He explained that the last bus fare revision was not beneficial for normal buses and that the National Transport Commission (NTC) calculations for the last revision were incorrect.
Therefore, the private bus owners have said that they will submit their own revisions to the NTC when discussing the bus fare revision.
