Subway chain opens its first store in Sri Lanka

Subway, the US-based fast food franchise popular for its submarine sandwiches has opened its first store in Sri Lanka.
Subway has opened its first store in R.A.de Mel Mawatha in Colombo.
The co-franchise owner Asath Sebastian has said that the chain, known for its trademark submarine sandwiches and salads, plans to open 30-stores in Sri Lanka within next five years and double the number within another five years' time.
The firm plans to open two to three subway stores in Sri Lanka this year. It will start with launching Subway in Colombo and greater Colombo and will establish stores in major cities such as Kandy, Galle, Matara, and Ratnapura.
Subway, which has stores in over 100 countries worldwide, has invested US$ 500,000 in the venture.
The owner expects that the store will be a success with the tourists as well as locals since it is an international brand with a local taste.
