An interim report released by the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has revealed that losses incurred by Sri Lanka's budget airline Mihin Lanka have further deepened.

According to the report, the airline has incurred a loss of Rs. 3.3 billion in 2013.

The figure has deepened from Rs. 1.9 billion in 2012, Chairman of the COPE Committee Minister DEW Gunasekara said.

"Losses at Mihin Lanka has deepened. We have also mentioned reasons for this in the report. All these reasons are not corruption. The government did not provide capital for Mihin Lanka and Sri Lankan airlines. They have said to obtain loans for these institutions. When the interest has to be paid, a lot of problems arise," the minister has said to BBC Sandeshaya.

The interim report has probed on 29 non profit organisations and 18 state institutes with commercial value.
