Former US President George HW Bush celebrated his 90th birthday on Thursday by carrying out his eighth parachute jump.
“It’s a wonderful day in Maine — in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump,” tweeted the elder Bush, who has seemed frail in recent public appearances, and is often seen in a wheelchair.
The 41st commander-in-chief parachuted out of a helicopter near his family home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Television footage showed the aircraft hovering over the target of the skydive, the jump and then the former president on the ground a short time later, with a swarm of people assisting him.
“41 doing ‘great, exhilarated’ following his skydive and a ‘hot’ landing,” his spokesman Jim McGrath said on Twitter after the jump.
The tandem jump was Bush’s eighth, with the first on September 2, 1944 — when he was shot down over the Pacific island Chi Chi Jima as a pilot in World War II.
He recalled that experience in an NBC interview with his granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager aired Thursday, acknowledging it actually made him want to jump again — and do it right.

“I pulled the rip cord too early, hit the tail of the plane with my head, just a glancing blow,” he said.
“And that, I decided that later on, well I want to do it right. And so that did spark my interest in making another jump — this time getting it correct.”
The Republican, who was in the White House from 1989 to 1993, also jumped to mark his 80th and 85th birthdays.
Washington wished Bush well, with President Barack Obama leading the way, telling NBC the 90-year-old was a “fine man.”
“And I just want him to know that from the whole Obama family, we wish him all the best,” the current president said.
The US Senate, meanwhile, passed a resolution in honor of Bush late Wednesday, extending best wishes to him and his wife Barbara.

A woman of the United Kingdom, said that she does not enjoy men as much as her Hello Kitty items.

29-year-old Natasha Goldsworth of Exeter, is struggling to find a man because her apartment is packed with the Hello Kitty collectibles.

Goldsworth, who is a horse trainer, became addicted to the cartoon as a teenager and has spent 15 years collecting the 10,000 items. Each room of her small apartment is now full of Hello Kitty accessories, including jewelry, furniture, clothing, curtains and 4,000 stuffed animals.

The Hello Kitty items are a big turnoff to men, but Natasha said that she is happy to push them away if they do not want to accept her obsession. Natasha's obsession began in 2000, when a school friend gave her a small Hello Kitty notebook as a gift.

She fell in love with the cute little cat and started buying larger items, such as curtains, lunch boxes and rubber balls. Her one bedroom apartment is packed to the brim with everything from kitchenware to clothing.

She admitted that she has to sacrifice on other things to fund her addiction, and said that she has not been on vacation or a restaurant for years. She is thinking of moving to a bigger place to have room for more Hello Kitty items.

A man was arrested on charges of discharging a firearm after he tried to shoot the moon, police in Arizona said.

39-year-old Cameron Read of Prescott Valley, told police officers as he was being arrested that he was just trying to shoot the moon.

The incident began when police were investigating a possible domestic disturbance on Friday. They received a call from a woman, who said that her boyfriend had fired several shots from a handgun and was still armed.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, said that Read resisted arrest and allegedly caused damage to the residence after refusing to leave. Witnesses at the scene told police that Read spoke about seeing a comet before firing a round through the window.

Later, they heard more shots as they were fleeing from the house. No one was injured. Read admitted to firing the gun several times and said he was trying to hit the moon.

He told police officers that he was not trying to harm anyone, and he admitted to smoking marijuana before the incident.
