Negombo plays host to HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort Show 2014

The third edition of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort Show will be held from 1 to 4 October in Negombo. CFW has proved to be the backbone of the Sri Lankan fashion design industry, celebrating its 11th year with the launch of its third annual show focusing on a collection of resort wear outfits. This much anticipated seasonal fashion showcase that has been well received by the fashion public in both Sri Lanka and the region; is to take place at Jetwing Blue and Jetwing Beach. The unique annual Resort Show will also focus on a variety of new features this year.
Commenting of CFW’s vision behind the show, Ajai V Singh, President Colombo Fashion Week stated, “Resort is a growing category around the world, and it’s new. I personally feel Sri Lanka is very well positioned to take a lead to create a regional resort wear pivot. The HSBC CFW Resort Show will celebrate the historic town of Negombo, where the first HSBC CFW Resort Wear Show was held. Negombo, a vibrant town that is home to the oldest fishing industry in Sri Lanka, lies amidst a colourful cultural and historical setting. This year, Negombo will provide the ideal location for the CFW Resort Show.

New items featured at the show will include a series of ‘Bright Sparks’ shows which were launched earlier this year with talented young undergraduates from a variety of Sri Lanka’s leading fashion institutes. A series of pop up shops will be featured prominently at the show for the first time this year. Pop up shops will be designed to create a sale point for items which will be showcased at the event. The shops will be designed by young architects who will compete for the opportunity to create the ultimate shop design.  This year, Jetwing will add excitement to the show by featuring two internationally renowned chefs (Daniel Hebet and Kenneth Loke) who will create a series of culinary masterpieces at the event. The show is to end with all the glitz and glamour of its legendary after parties this year.

HSBC Sri Lanka wins two awards at Asian Banking and Finance Awards 2014

HSBC Sri Lanka was awarded Credit Card Initiative of the Year and Advertising Campaign of the Year at the Asian Banking and Finance Awards ceremony, held in Singapore.
Winning banks all gathered at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore recently, and witnessed the World Cup of banking and finance as top executives went up on stage to reaffirm their position in the financial sector.
HSBC was among over 200 banks from around 30 countries who participated at the prestigious awards ceremony that made history this year with a record number of nominations from banks located in Singapore to as far as Turkey.
Regionally, HSBC was also awarded International Retail Bank of the Year, HSBC Asia Pacific, Online Banking Initiative of the Year in Australia, Advertising Campaign of the Year in China, Advertising Campaign of the Year in Hong Kong and Credit Card Initiative of the Year, Advertising Campaign of the Year in India and Advertising Campaign of the Year in Indonesia.
Winning the credit card initiative of the year for its e-statement campaign launched in August 2013, demonstrates the bank’s commitment to foster green banking initiatives as the market leader in the credit cards industry in Sri Lanka. HSBC’s e-statement campaign encouraged customers to pledge their support towards climate change by opting for e-statements and enhance the customer experience through a more secure, speedy and convenient service offered anytime, anywhere, on any device.
“We are pleased to be the only bank in Sri Lanka to win the award for credit card initiative of the year, which is a remarkable win for us. Sri Lanka became the pilot country to launch the campaign and it was very well received by our customers with a take up rate of over 15% of our base. HSBC has continued to innovate and enhance the customer experience by offering products and services that fulfill the needs of customers. We will continue to look at new concepts and innovation to support the lifestyle of customers in future,” stated Nilantha Bastian, Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management.
HSBC won the Advertising Campaign of the Year award for the second consecutive year, this time for its creative execution of the 2013 seasonal campaign ‘Offers so great, Santa takes a break’.  The seasonal campaign featured Santa as the central element in all creative material, as a notable figure encapsulating an enjoyable season of festive fun and good cheer.  This enabled the bank to conduct ground activations inside leading shopping malls, supermarkets and places most patronised by holiday shoppers, with Santa prompting cardholders to actively engage in leisure activities during rush hour holiday shopping.  Customers, both young and old, were also invited to play mini golf with Santa during the promotional period.Tharanga Gunasekera, Head of Marketing and Communications, stated: “HSBC has always been a trend setter in the market with innovative and novel concepts that have been well received by our customers and merchants.  We are happy to have received the award for advertising campaign of the year for the second consecutive year. HSBC named Euromoney’s Best Bank in Asia

HSBC has been named Best Bank in Asia in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2014. The bank has also been named Best Flow House in Asia, Best Risk Adviser in Asia, Best Bank in Hong Kong and Best Investment Bank in Hong Kong.
These accolades were presented at Euromoney’s Asia awards ceremony hosted in Hong Kong on Thursday, 17 July. Peter Wong, Deputy Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and Chief Executive, Asia-Pacific, attended the event along with guests of HSBC.
“The win is a vindication of HSBC’s strategy,” said Euromoney in its coverage of the Best Bank in Asia award, which highlighted the extent to which collaboration between the bank’s global banking and markets and commercial banking businesses had been key to securing the award.

Euromoney also pointed to HSBC’s strength in debt capital markets and corporate lending, said its gains in investment banking this year had been ‘particularly eye-catching’, noted that the bank was increasing its business with multinational corporations in Asia-Pacific and commented that it had developed its trade finance business, ‘expanding its RMB offering to Latin America as trade with mainland China grows’.
Gordon French, Head of Global Banking and Markets, Asia-Pacific, remarked: “It’s hard to overstate what winning Best Bank in Asia means to HSBC. To be acknowledged in this way is a remarkable tribute to the headway we have made in broadening our business and bringing the full spectrum of investment banking, transaction banking and markets solutions to our clients across our Global Banking and Markets and Commercial Banking businesses.”
Commenting on the Best Bank in Asia award, Noel Quinn, Head of Commercial Banking, Asia-Pacific, said: “This accolade is a great honour for HSBC and a reflection of our commitment to combining our broad international network, leadership in trade finance and ability to deliver integrated banking solutions to international businesses. We would not have achieved this award without the collaborative efforts and dedication of our employees, and we look forward to delivering continued innovative solutions to our clients across Asia-Pacific.”
In its coverage of HSBC’s success in winning the awards for Best Bank and Best Investment Bank in Hong Kong, Euromoney stated: “In investment banking, its plan to be a one-stop shop, providing advisory services and financing to a diverse range of customers is beginning to look like it is working, and Hong Kong is a microcosm of Asia-Pacific in this respect.”
The Bank’s strength in providing risk management and investment solutions for clients in foreign exchange, interest rates, credit, equities and commodities was highlighted in Euromoney’s decision to name HSBC Best Flow House in Asia and Best Risk Adviser in Asia. Euromoney pointed to HSBC’s ‘success in broadening the reach of the RMB’ in its commentary on the Best Flow House in Asia award. For the Best Risk Adviser in Asia award, it concluded: “HSBC wins through the volume and variety of transactions through which it can demonstrate its commitment to risk management.”
Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence seek to recognise excellence in global financial services and cover more than 20 global product categories, best-in-class awards in all regions and the best banks in close to 100 countries around the world. The magazine’s editorial staff interviewed HSBC executives before making their awards decisions.

Designer applications open for Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear 2014

Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear 2014
Applications for designers to showcase their work at Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) Resort Wear 2014 are now open.
The second annual CFW season that is the Resort Wear show will take place from 1 to 4 October and designers interested in participating can now apply. Resort Wear is a growing fashion category which CFW is taking the lead in promoting in the region by creating one of the biggest showcases of this category in South Asia.


CFW Resort Wear is a highly anticipated event, including two days of ‘BrightSpark’ shows which feature high potential talent followed by a senior and international designer showcase. During the event, CFW will feature all its key projects, ‘Crafts in Fashion’, ‘BrightSpark’ shows and the ‘Fashion+Food’ series which involves a celebrity chef and a mixologist. The event will also feature ‘CFW Curates’ the online retail program, the CFW After Party and other fashion and design related workshops with fashion industry experts.
Speaking about the show, Ajai Vir Singh, President Colombo Fashion Week stated, “The Resort Wear show is a season that has high growth potential for CFW and the region. This event also shows how CFW has taken a lead in developing all aspects of fashion in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region. CWF has created a unique model which combines fashion and resort wear and we are continuously working towards improving it. The show has grown a great deal since last year. It used to run for two days but now runs for four days and showcases all of our sub-brands that are working towards uplifting Sri Lanka’s fashion and design industry. We are very excited about the upcoming show and by God’s grace, we will have a successful event and further encourage the progression of the fashion industry.”
Both seasoned and new designers can apply to showcase their work at CFW Resort Wear 2014 by emailing apply@colombofashionweek.com. The application process for new applicants is structured so that all applications are evaluated by three acclaimed international designers from different countries ensuring that all designers receive both a professional and neutral assessment on how they can improve and strengthen their designs to appeal to a local and foreign audience. Designers who have showcased at CFW for three years will be eligible to apply without having to go through the evaluation process, all they have to do is email their details to the above mentioned email address.
The second edition of the Colombo Fashion Week Resort Wear show was held in the historic town of Galle last year. This unique, seasonal annual show is well received by the fashion public in both Sri Lanka and the region.
