A helicopter flying in the skies over the North Western Province has aroused the curiosity of people residing in the area.
Our media team inquired as to why this well-equipped helicopter was seen touring in this area.
When we made inquiries in this regard, it was revealed that the helicopter is travelling over the skies in the North Western Province to explore for possible mineral sources. The Geological survey and Mines Bureau said that licences have been issued to a foreign company for this purpose.
The Bureau noted that explorations are being conducted in the Central and North Western Provinces for mineral sources. The bureau said that explorations are being conducted in these provinces with the use of electromagnetic technology.
Director General of Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, Anil Peiris shared these views:
“This is the first time in Sri Lanka that a licence holder is engaging in an exploration for mineral sources with the use of electromagnetic tracking technology. I must mention that this is being done by an Australian company. The data obtained through the research will be sent to Canada and the results will be sent back to Sri Lanka. The aim of the survey is to explore for graphite deposits in these areas of Sri Lanka.”
