Commonwealth Games final day: England tops medals table

England have cemented their position on the top of the medals table on the final day of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
India is currently in 5th position after squash players Deepika Pallikal and Joshana Vinappa, registered a triumph. Deepika Pallikal and Joshana Vinappa, represented India in the finals of the Womens Doubles, Squash event, and recorded a comprehensive 2-0 victory over their English opponents.
Incidentally this is India’s first squash gold in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
The Jamaican team anchored by sprinter Usain Bolt cruised to victory in the 4 into 100 meters Mens Relay, winning Bolt his first Commonwealth Gold. The Jamaicans set a new games record with a time of 37.58 seconds.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Wasana Perera and Jayasinghe Ratnayake were defeated in the Para-sports Power lifting event, in the 72 kilogramme weight class. Nigeria’s Paul Kehinde won gold while compatriot Rolan Esurike won Silver.
England’s Ali Javad won bronze. Several Sri Lankan athletes took to the arena on Sunday on the final day of the Commonwealth Games.
