Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued summons for DIG of the Western Province Anura Senanayake to appear before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on August 5 in connection with providing a police officer for the security of the Chairman of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Upul Jayasuriya.
The summons were issued following a request made by President’s Counsel Thilak Marapana, who appeared in court representing Upul Jayasuriya.
The President’s Counsel stated that a complaint had been lodged with the Cinnamon Gardens Police with regard to a threat against Jayasuriya’s life as a three-wheeler and a motorcycle were following him on July 15.
The attorney further stated that the police had submitted a report in this regard before court and Upul Jayasuriya had provided the license plate numbers of the two vehicles that were tailing him to the police. However, suspicions were aroused as no records pertaining to those numbers were found at the Motor Vehicle Registration Commissioner’s office.
Therefore, the Presidents Counsel requested one or two police officers to provide security to Upul Jayasuriya, following which courts issued summons for DIG Senanayake.
