It is privileged to speak out as a Sri Lankan ATRS ranked Bandaranaike International Airport as 25th among the 200 airports across the world including 37 airports in south Asian region. It is shame recently some irresponsible media misinterpreted the report, while many other world aviation research institutes ranked  CMB as relatively high in every single report.

The ATRS conducts this research annually as the part of their “global Airport performance benchmarking project “and published its findings. The report also describes the methodology employed in the analysis of the data gathered. The latest report based on data collected up to year 2012. The research focuses on 3 aspects of airport performance, namely: - 1.Productivity and Operating /Managing efficiency. 2. Unit cost Competitiveness. 3. Airport Users Charges.

However, the BIA still ranked higher than airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai in India, Haneda, Manila, and Tai Pei. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Airport and Aviation Services Ltd Prasanna Wickramasuriya said this at a press briefing held in Colombo yesterday he said Sri Lanka has started direct flights with many countries during the past few years. He added that the pledge made by the Mahinda Chinthana manifesto to make Sri Lanka aviation hub in Asia is becoming a reality at present.

BIA achieved many achievements locally and internationally. In the Air Travel Ratings and reviews of 2014 SKYTRAX ranked BIA as 4th best airport in central Aisa. BIA got many Awards named as The National Business Excellence Award for productivity and efficiency in three consecutive years (2011, 2012, 2013), Sri Lanka National energy efficiency Award in year 2012, Global Commerce Excellence Award in two consecutive years (2011 & 2012) and as per LMD magazine-July 2014 Rank of the State Sector index based on the latest Financial Profiles AASL position has been uplifted to 4th place among 62 sate entities.

After ending decades long war BIA drastically increased its ranking in every possible aspects regardless of the resources it claimed. SKYTRAX indicate in its repots BIA has immense growth rate of 52 presents during 2008 to 2012.As clearly depicted by the above facts, BIA is a fast developing, efficient, user friendly airport in spite of operating 25% over capacity. The 2nd phase of the 2nd stage of BIA development project is being launched to cope with the increasing demand for capacity.
