Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) (also known as the Hambantota International Airport) (IATA: HRI, ICAO: VCRI) is an international airport serving the city of Hambantota in southeast Sri Lanka. Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is Sri Lanka's second international airport, after Bandaranaike International Airport. It serves as the secondary hubs for Sri Lankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka. It is named after the Rajapaksa family. It is the newest and most developing airport in Sri Lanka. It is also the first greenfield airport in the country.

The government is setting up a storage facility capable of holding three million litres of aviation fuel.
This fuel storage facility will be opened very soon, Airport and Aviation Services Ltd. chairman Prasanna Wickremasuriya told AdaderanaBiz.
“This storage facility will sell fuel to aircraft,” he added.
While the Abu Dhabi based Rotana Jet is preparing to fly to Mattala Air Arabia is also preparing to resume its flights to Mattala. FlyDubai is already operating flights to Mattala.
As reported by AdaderanaBiz recently, Qatar and Etihad Airways are carrying out feasibility studies for their flights to the Mattala international airport.
