2015 Toyota Yaris
The 2015 Toyota Yaris has debuted with a new European-themed design, several new additional interior and exterior features and a manufacturer’s suggested retail price range from $14,485 to $17,620.
The price range extends from three-door L with a manual transmission ($14,485) to the five-door SE with a four-speed automatic ($17,620).
Like like the previous-generations, the 2015 Toyota Yaris comes in 3-door and 5-door liftback configurations. It features an aggressive new look with a horizontal chrome grill treatment that appears to continue into the headlamp.
The 1.5-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder DOHC engine equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) produces 106 horsepower.
A five-speed manual transmission, made smoother by an improved hydraulic clutch, is standard. Also available is a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. It features a compact, lightweight design and low friction for high fuel efficiency.
Newness permeates the Yaris cabin. Sitting in premium seats, the Yaris driver faces a sporty new dashboard design and touches new, softer materials throughout.
Retuned suspension, a more rigid body structure, additional sound insulation and attention to aerodynamic details all help to give the 2015 Yaris a smooth, dynamic and quieter ride. With safety always at the forefront, the Yaris continues to come equipped with nine standard SRS airbags, including curtain shield airbags and front seat cushion airbags.
The Yaris comes in base L, premium LE and sporty SE models, each a single-spec trim that eliminates option packages. Standard features on the L grade include air conditioning, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, new, quick ratio, sport-tuned Electric Power Steering with power-assisted rack-and-pinion, power windows with driver’s side auto down, three-spoke tilt steering wheel, power door locks, Daytime Running Lights, and 15-inch wheels with wheel covers.
The Yaris LE adds the convenience of cruise control, power mirrors, steering wheel audio controls silver/metallic interior accents and remote keyless entry with an engine immobilizer. The LE rides in style on 15-inch alloy wheels.
The SE package turns the Yaris into an urban-cool sporty ride, with projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights, integrated fog lamps, rear spoiler and special gloss black with machine-surfaced 16-inch alloy wheels. The SE adds a sport-tuned suspension, now with a solid stabilizer bar, and four-wheel disc brakes that are one-inch larger in the front.
Inside, the SE is equipped with a leather-trimmed tilt three-spoke steering wheel and shift knob, sport meter and tachometer. The SE has its own unique sport fabric and includes gloss black accents throughout.
All Yaris models get Entune Audio with a 6.1-inch touch screen, an AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, HD Radio with iTunes Tagging, auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPo connectivity and control, hands-free phone capability, voice recognition, and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology.
For the first time in a Yaris, a navigation system is available as a dealer-installed option.

Latest Toyota Sienna minivan makes it easier to yell at kids

Posted by Unknown on Saturday, July 19, 2014 | 0 comments | Leave a comment...

Toyota wants to help you scream at your unruly kids.
The latest version of the company’s Sienna minivan has a feature called “Driver Easy Speak.” It uses a built-in microphone to amplify a parent’s voice through speakers in the back seats.
Toyota says it added Easy Speak “so parents don’t have to shout to passengers in the back.” But chances are many parents will yell into the microphone anyway.
And the feature only works one way, so the kids can’t talk back. At least not with amplified voices.
The feature is an option on the 2015 Sienna, which is being refreshed with a totally new interior. It also has an optional “pull-down conversation mirror” that lets drivers check on kids without turning around.
Automakers are trying to come up with creative ways to make the out-of-fashion minivan more appealing, said Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst at the Edmunds.com automotive website. Last year Honda unveiled a vacuum cleaner built into the back of its revamped Odyssey minivan that got a lot of attention.
Such features are important because there’s little automakers can do to make the practical but bland vans more stylish, Caldwell said.
“I think they’re on the right lines of trying to find these features that people are going to talk about,” she said.
Minivan sales peaked at 1.37 million in 2000, but fell as low as 415,000 in 2009, when auto sales bottomed during the Great Recession. Sales have risen as the market rebounded, and last year people bought just under 519,000 of the vans. But Caldwell said the minivan share of the market now is holding steady at 3.4 percent, less than half the share from peak years.
Some new products are entering the minivan market despite its decline. Ford is rolling out a new family hauler based on the Transit Connect small commercial van and Chrysler is working on a revamp of its Town & Country minivan.
Toyota is unveiling the new Sienna mainly through social media and at a Baltimore arts festival this weekend. It’s due to hit showrooms in the fall.
“Driver Easy Speak” is available only on vans equipped with Toyota’s Entune premium audio systems. Prices of the van and the voice feature were not announced.

Toyota Hydrogen Car Will Be Available in 2015

Toyota Hydrogen Ca
Toyota recently announced its response to Tesla Motors’s fully electric vehicle with a hydrogen powered car that will be available in 2015. The hydrogen fuel cells only emit harmless water vapor. The first model of the vehicle will be a 2015 Sedan that is priced at $70,000 and will be first launched in Japan, which is right in line with the release of the Tesla Model S. The Toyota hydrogen car claims it will have a 430 mile cruising range and a refueling time of three minutes: both figures are better than the traditional batteries and gas-powered vehicles.
After the eco-friendly vehicle is released in Japan, it will be distributed in Europe and North America. California will be the first state to receive the Toyota hydrogen car because of their proven willingness to embrace new car technology, and the state has already begun investing in hydrogen fueling stations. The car manufacturer stated that their biggest challenge is to make the cars as, or more, convenient than traditional vehicles to use on a daily basis.
The design for the new clean energy vehicle has been finalized. The sedan’s design is modeled after the earlier FCV concept. The price of the Toyota hydrogen car is just an estimation as an official price has not yet been finalized. The baseline price of the Tesla S is $60,000 and includes a lifetime of fuel costs. Toyota believes that they will have the upper hand with the technology’s claim of a faster fueling time, greater range, and less of an environmental impact.
The Toyota Hydrogen Car which will be made available in 2015 is much more efficient in refueling than the Tesla Supercharger, which takes more than an hour to deliver a charge that enables a range of 300 miles. Toyota’s alternative energy vehicle is pumped with hydrogen gas which takes approximately four minutes. Once in the tank,  the hydrogen is gradually mixed with oxygen inside the car. The combination produces an electro-chemical reaction that powers the car for over 400 miles, which emits only harmless water vapor.
The 2015 Toyota hydrogen car will be made available by April in Japan, but there are complexites with the technology. The cost and difficulty of gathering, storing, and delivering the hydrogen gas at a high pressure is more difficult and costly than gas. Observers have noted that it will be difficult for the major car manufacturer to compete with Tesla’s fueling infrastructure; which offers charging stations at customer’s home, parking areas, rest stops, and offers solar power charging capabilities to save money.
The 2015 Toyota hydrogen car will only be available to cities that already have some sort of hydrogen fueling infrastructure already. Automotive observers have stated that Toyota’s biggest challenge is not developing and releasing a workable model, but ensuring that customers are always near a refueling station. Environmentalists do favor the Toyota hydrogen car when compared to Tesla’s all-electric vehicles due to the fact that the energy in Tesla vehicles is very likely to come from environmentally harmful sources, like coal.

Mazda Hazumi Concept unveiled

Mazda Hazumi Concept
The Mazda 2 for 2015 is 4,070mm long x 1,730mm wide x 1,450mm high, on a 2,585mm wheelbase. The Hazumi concept is fitted with a newly developed 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine which promises outstanding fuel economy without compromising powerful, linear performance. In Japan the 1,348cc petrol engine has shrunk to 1,298cc. The 100PS/150Nm 1,496cc Skyactiv petrol engine as used in the Mazda 3 is also offered. In addition to enhancing safety fundamentals such as driving position and field of view, Hazumi adopts Mazda’s range of i-ACTIVSENSE safety features. Meanwhile, MZD Connect offers drivers the convenience of smartphone connectivity in a format that is safe and appropriate for in-vehicle use.
The instrument cluster is designed around the driver’s centre axis. It features a single, centrally-positioned gauge with minor displays spreading like wings on either side. The layout of the centre display, Active Driving Display, and commander control, is based on Mazda’s unique human machine interface (HMI) concept called the Heads-Up Cockpit. It is designed to help drivers deal with large amounts of information while keeping their eyes on the road ahead and maintaining a safe and stable body position.
The concept’s name is a Japanese word meaning to ‘bound’ or ‘spring up’ and was chosen to convey an image of a small but vigorous animal, bursting with energy. It also describes potential B-segment buyers: young, dynamic, vibrant and ambitious.
Mazda confirmed some details of its new 1.5 litre Skyactiv D engine for the Mazda 2. New innovations for the small-displacement newcomer to the SKYACTIV range include an expanded homogenous lean burn range, even less mechanical resistance, and new insulation technology to counter the increased cooling loss associated with a smaller engine. So it’s exceptionally efficient and clean, delivering top-class fuel economy and emissions, and will comply with Euro 6 without needing pricey exhaust after treatment.
In addition to the SKYACTIV-D 1.5, the all-new Mazda2 will come equipped with the full line-up of SKYACTIV Technology, including the highly efficient six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic and SKYACTIV-MT manual transmissions. It will also have Mazda’s fuel-saving i-stop idle-stop and i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration systems. Mazda expects its new clean diesel-powered supermini to achieve the best fuel economy of any combustion engine powered vehicle available in Japan (according to Japan’s strict JC08 test, excluding hybrids and microcars).
SKYACTIV-D 1.5: What’s new?
nCombustion mode transition control technology and high dispersion solenoid injectors to suppress cooling losses.
nHigh- and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation used to extend the homogeneous lean burn range, improving fuel economy and the sense of performance.
nCooling water control valves and water jacket spacers to improve combustion efficiency while reducing mechanical resistance.
nVariable geometry turbocharger with rotation sensor to deliver plentiful boost pressure throughout the engine’s rpm range.
nIntercooler integrated into the intake manifold to improve acceleration response and turbocharger efficiency.

Lamborghini's Aventador Roadster reviewed

Posted by Unknown on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 | 0 comments | Leave a comment...

The Roadster version looks even more special, with its slender-spoked alloy wheels and complex glass engine cover. In my eyes, it’s easily the best-looking car you can buy today; a show-stopper in white. Yes, lots of sportscars can turn a few heads. But the Roadster, with its dramatic, jet fighter design, can summon a fanatical mob seemingly out of thin air. Hence, spending a day in Bangalore with the car would have been as easy as Katrina Kaif spending a day shopping on MG Road.

But yet here I am, and first things first: off comes the roof; I’m not about to drive one of the most exotic convertibles on the planet with a roof over my head. But unlike most convertibles, this isn’t some push-button, fold-on-the-fly electric roof. No, the carmaker, in typical Italian fashion, prefers style over function, and a folding roof would have compromised the car’s beautiful silhouette and that gorgeous engine cover.
So instead, you get a pair of forged composite roof panels that can be removed. It’s a bit of a tedious task – fold the seatbacks forward, pull the latches to release the panels, lift them out, and slot them into the boot. But at least they’re extremely light.
I lower myself into the cockpit, close the scissor door and am greeted by a familiar dashboard – it’s the same as the coupé and it’s still every bit as amazing.
It wouldn’t be a Lambo without a low-slung driving position, a steeply raked windscreen and acres of leather and carbonfibre inside.
This version ticks all of these boxes, and with some flair, but then this Italian manufacturer is owned by Audi, so along with that comes Germanic quality and decent ergonomics.
You’ll also spot a few parts borrowed from various Audi models, but the way Lamborghini has managed to blend these and the media interface in without hampering the visual drama makes this cabin – or rather cockpit – very special.
The German connection also means the air-con works well and you get a reversing camera; handy, because you can’t see very much past that exquisite engine cover behind you that hosts the same earth-moving 691bhp, 6.5-litre V12 as the coupé.
Given the increasing shift towards fuel-efficient, direct-injection, turbo engines, there’s something charmingly stubborn about an old-school, naturally aspirated V12 that loves to rev till your ears hurt.
I prod the start button and the engine comes to life with a loud growl. On this open stretch of tarmac, the grin won’t leave my face, and the way this Lambo accelerates is a new experience altogether.
Yes, I’ve driven the coupé, and it’s supposed to be slightly quicker since it’s 50kg lighter. But hearing that fantastic V12 clearly with the roof off just intensifies the experience; it feels like it’s packing another 100bhp. If you’d rather keep the roof up, you can still open the rear glass to hear that twelve-cylinder symphony.
It spears towards the horizon with a pace and ferocity that few other cars on the planet can compete with. In Sport mode, the acceleration is terrific, and if that isn’t enough, in full-power Corsa mode, the car transforms completely. It kicks you hard in the back every time you upshift near its 8,500rpm redline, so much so that you run the very real risk of neck injury from whiplash.
The complex four-wheel-drive system and the aggressive launch control allow this 1,625kg car to go from nought to 100kph in 3.0sec, hurtling you onward to a top speed of 349kph – without a roof!
Time to show this low, pointy nose the heart of Bangalore city – but perhaps I should have waited till the streets emptied out.
As soon as I encounter the slightest congestion, it’s clear that this Lambo is happy only when it’s going fast. The gearbox, which is lightning-quick at speed, feels jerky when you’re going slow, and the single clutch is not at all smooth when it bites. In any setting, the car is cumbersome to park, because it is next to impossible to creep. With some practice, I’m able to drive it smoothly, but it requires concentration and is, frankly, exhausting.
Then there’s the ride – skateboard-stiff and outright uncomfortable on the lumpy, potholed roads of Bangalore. The car also tends to overheat, and I’m fast regretting bringing it to the city.
So here’s a piece of advice to those who might actually buy this outrageous machine: spend a few lakhs more and get a flatbed truck to transport this rare piece of cattle to your favourite open road.
Owning such an outrageous car also means you draw a lot of attention, and at a traffic light, you end up getting mobbed. It’s fun to begin with, but when you start causing traffic jams and bikers come perilously close to the car, camera phones in hand, the excitement turns to horror pretty quickly. You can’t escape the spotlight, especially since that would mean getting out and re-assembling the roof, panel by panel.

At Rs. 5.46 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), this Lambo doesn’t make any sense at all, but for a few passionate (and very rich) customers, that’s exactly what makes it so special.

World’s fastest police car unveiled

Ariel Atom police car
It already holds the record for the quickest lap round the Top Gear track but now the Ariel Atom has become the world’s fastest panda car.
Avon and Somerset police force has taken delivery of one of the 155mph cars which has been painted in the force livery and fitted with special aerodynamic blue lights.
Able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds, the £38,000 vehicle will be used by traffic officers to deter speeding motorists and encourage motorcyclists to slow down.
The vehicle, which looks more like a Formula One racing machine, rather than traditional road car, is thought to be the quickest police car in the world, able to outrun the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia used by Italian officers, the Audi R8 driven by German police, and the Ferrari FF used in Dubai.
Avon and Somerset Police borrowed the Atom from local manufacturer Ariel for the summer while it promotes a new road safety campaign aimed at slowing down speeding motorcyclists.
It is hoped the eye-catching machine will dissuade bikers from riding dangerously as it is displayed at promotional events across the south west.
Seven motorcyclists have lost their life already this year in the area, a 30 per cent increase on this time last year.
Andy Parsons, a Roads Policing Sergeant, who is involved in the project said: “I am really excited that Ariel has joined with us to bring Project SAFER RIDER to fruition, and I hope that the use of the Ariel PL1 with have a positive impact to promote Road Safety.
“To be safe, rider and machine need to work in harmony. When this happens it feels immediately right. When it doesn’t, things go wrong. Too many injuries and deaths are the result of rider error.”
Simon Saunders, Director of Ariel said: “Our business is about going fast, very fast, but there is a time and a place.
“The Atom is designed to be driven to a racetrack, where you can drive to your limits in safety and in a professional environment designed for the purpose. The road really isn’t the place to explore your or your vehicle’s limits.”
Motorcyclists are currently 35 times more likely to be killed in a road collision.
While the car, which weighs just 612kg, is capable of keeping up with many high power road bikes, there are no plans to use it in operational police duties.
