DETROIT (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp is recalling 130,000 2014 Tundra pickup trucks to correct a problem with side air bags, the automaker's U.S. sales arm said today.
An incorrectly installed piece of trim on the vehicle's center pillar could interfere with the deployment of the side airbags in a crash, according to Toyota Motor Sales USA.
Toyota said it is not aware of any injuries or fatalities related to the condition.

2015 Toyota Yaris
The 2015 Toyota Yaris has debuted with a new European-themed design, several new additional interior and exterior features and a manufacturer’s suggested retail price range from $14,485 to $17,620.
The price range extends from three-door L with a manual transmission ($14,485) to the five-door SE with a four-speed automatic ($17,620).
Like like the previous-generations, the 2015 Toyota Yaris comes in 3-door and 5-door liftback configurations. It features an aggressive new look with a horizontal chrome grill treatment that appears to continue into the headlamp.
The 1.5-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder DOHC engine equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) produces 106 horsepower.
A five-speed manual transmission, made smoother by an improved hydraulic clutch, is standard. Also available is a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. It features a compact, lightweight design and low friction for high fuel efficiency.
Newness permeates the Yaris cabin. Sitting in premium seats, the Yaris driver faces a sporty new dashboard design and touches new, softer materials throughout.
Retuned suspension, a more rigid body structure, additional sound insulation and attention to aerodynamic details all help to give the 2015 Yaris a smooth, dynamic and quieter ride. With safety always at the forefront, the Yaris continues to come equipped with nine standard SRS airbags, including curtain shield airbags and front seat cushion airbags.
The Yaris comes in base L, premium LE and sporty SE models, each a single-spec trim that eliminates option packages. Standard features on the L grade include air conditioning, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, new, quick ratio, sport-tuned Electric Power Steering with power-assisted rack-and-pinion, power windows with driver’s side auto down, three-spoke tilt steering wheel, power door locks, Daytime Running Lights, and 15-inch wheels with wheel covers.
The Yaris LE adds the convenience of cruise control, power mirrors, steering wheel audio controls silver/metallic interior accents and remote keyless entry with an engine immobilizer. The LE rides in style on 15-inch alloy wheels.
The SE package turns the Yaris into an urban-cool sporty ride, with projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights, integrated fog lamps, rear spoiler and special gloss black with machine-surfaced 16-inch alloy wheels. The SE adds a sport-tuned suspension, now with a solid stabilizer bar, and four-wheel disc brakes that are one-inch larger in the front.
Inside, the SE is equipped with a leather-trimmed tilt three-spoke steering wheel and shift knob, sport meter and tachometer. The SE has its own unique sport fabric and includes gloss black accents throughout.
All Yaris models get Entune Audio with a 6.1-inch touch screen, an AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, HD Radio with iTunes Tagging, auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPo connectivity and control, hands-free phone capability, voice recognition, and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology.
For the first time in a Yaris, a navigation system is available as a dealer-installed option.

Latest Toyota Sienna minivan makes it easier to yell at kids

Toyota wants to help you scream at your unruly kids.
The latest version of the company’s Sienna minivan has a feature called “Driver Easy Speak.” It uses a built-in microphone to amplify a parent’s voice through speakers in the back seats.
Toyota says it added Easy Speak “so parents don’t have to shout to passengers in the back.” But chances are many parents will yell into the microphone anyway.
And the feature only works one way, so the kids can’t talk back. At least not with amplified voices.
The feature is an option on the 2015 Sienna, which is being refreshed with a totally new interior. It also has an optional “pull-down conversation mirror” that lets drivers check on kids without turning around.
Automakers are trying to come up with creative ways to make the out-of-fashion minivan more appealing, said Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst at the Edmunds.com automotive website. Last year Honda unveiled a vacuum cleaner built into the back of its revamped Odyssey minivan that got a lot of attention.
Such features are important because there’s little automakers can do to make the practical but bland vans more stylish, Caldwell said.
“I think they’re on the right lines of trying to find these features that people are going to talk about,” she said.
Minivan sales peaked at 1.37 million in 2000, but fell as low as 415,000 in 2009, when auto sales bottomed during the Great Recession. Sales have risen as the market rebounded, and last year people bought just under 519,000 of the vans. But Caldwell said the minivan share of the market now is holding steady at 3.4 percent, less than half the share from peak years.
Some new products are entering the minivan market despite its decline. Ford is rolling out a new family hauler based on the Transit Connect small commercial van and Chrysler is working on a revamp of its Town & Country minivan.
Toyota is unveiling the new Sienna mainly through social media and at a Baltimore arts festival this weekend. It’s due to hit showrooms in the fall.
“Driver Easy Speak” is available only on vans equipped with Toyota’s Entune premium audio systems. Prices of the van and the voice feature were not announced.

Toyota Hydrogen Car Will Be Available in 2015

Toyota Hydrogen Ca
Toyota recently announced its response to Tesla Motors’s fully electric vehicle with a hydrogen powered car that will be available in 2015. The hydrogen fuel cells only emit harmless water vapor. The first model of the vehicle will be a 2015 Sedan that is priced at $70,000 and will be first launched in Japan, which is right in line with the release of the Tesla Model S. The Toyota hydrogen car claims it will have a 430 mile cruising range and a refueling time of three minutes: both figures are better than the traditional batteries and gas-powered vehicles.
After the eco-friendly vehicle is released in Japan, it will be distributed in Europe and North America. California will be the first state to receive the Toyota hydrogen car because of their proven willingness to embrace new car technology, and the state has already begun investing in hydrogen fueling stations. The car manufacturer stated that their biggest challenge is to make the cars as, or more, convenient than traditional vehicles to use on a daily basis.
The design for the new clean energy vehicle has been finalized. The sedan’s design is modeled after the earlier FCV concept. The price of the Toyota hydrogen car is just an estimation as an official price has not yet been finalized. The baseline price of the Tesla S is $60,000 and includes a lifetime of fuel costs. Toyota believes that they will have the upper hand with the technology’s claim of a faster fueling time, greater range, and less of an environmental impact.
The Toyota Hydrogen Car which will be made available in 2015 is much more efficient in refueling than the Tesla Supercharger, which takes more than an hour to deliver a charge that enables a range of 300 miles. Toyota’s alternative energy vehicle is pumped with hydrogen gas which takes approximately four minutes. Once in the tank,  the hydrogen is gradually mixed with oxygen inside the car. The combination produces an electro-chemical reaction that powers the car for over 400 miles, which emits only harmless water vapor.
The 2015 Toyota hydrogen car will be made available by April in Japan, but there are complexites with the technology. The cost and difficulty of gathering, storing, and delivering the hydrogen gas at a high pressure is more difficult and costly than gas. Observers have noted that it will be difficult for the major car manufacturer to compete with Tesla’s fueling infrastructure; which offers charging stations at customer’s home, parking areas, rest stops, and offers solar power charging capabilities to save money.
The 2015 Toyota hydrogen car will only be available to cities that already have some sort of hydrogen fueling infrastructure already. Automotive observers have stated that Toyota’s biggest challenge is not developing and releasing a workable model, but ensuring that customers are always near a refueling station. Environmentalists do favor the Toyota hydrogen car when compared to Tesla’s all-electric vehicles due to the fact that the energy in Tesla vehicles is very likely to come from environmentally harmful sources, like coal.

Toyota adds to recall over airbags

Posted by Unknown on Thursday, June 12, 2014 | 0 comments | Leave a comment...

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has added 650,000 cars – all in Japan – to the recall it issued last year over a defect in passenger airbags.
That takes the number of cars recalled over the issue to 2.79 million.
The affected vehicles have a defective part which “could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and deploy the airbag abnormally in a crash”.
Toyota, the world’s biggest carmaker, said it had received one report of a seat cover burn due to the issue.
It added that it was also modifying the remedy that it was using to address the issue.
Toyota said that it had so far been replacing the part in the affected vehicles based on the serial number provided by the parts maker, Takata Corp.
However, it added, that the serial number in some of the cases was incomplete and had led to those cars not being serviced, despite receiving the initial recall notice.
Toyota said it would now replace the inflator in “all involved vehicles”, irrespective of the serial numbers.
As a result, it said, it was re-notifying 350,000 owners globally to bring their cars back for servicing.
“For vehicles which were inspected and did not receive a replacement inflator, we will re-notify the owners and replace the inflator with a new one,” the firm said in a statement.
Another 1.24 million owners – who had received the initial recall notice but did not bring their vehicles in – are also being sent a fresh notice.
The vehicle models affected by the issues include Corolla, Camry Yaris and Vios.
